Acidosis in a Cow
Acidosis
A four-year-old cow was brought to the veterinary clinic displaying symptoms of weight loss and reduced appetite. Following a thorough clinical examination, the veterinary team suspected acidosis, likely caused by improper dietary management and excessive feeding of molasses.
Acidosis is a serious metabolic disorder often triggered by an overconsumption of fermentable carbohydrates, leading to a sharp decline in rumen pH. If left untreated, it can severely disrupt digestion, impair nutrient absorption, and compromise overall health.
To manage the condition, the clinic staff provided specialized dietary recommendations aimed at restoring the cow’s health. Additionally, the necessary medical prescriptions were issued to support recovery and stabilize its condition. Farmers and livestock owners are advised to regulate carbohydrate intake and adopt balanced feeding practices to prevent such metabolic disorders, ensuring optimal digestive health and well-being for their herds.
The case is managed and supervised by Assist Prof. Dr. Nawzat abo Zaid Issa along with a group of students.
